ORPHANS’ CLUB
SUCCESSFUL SEASON CONCLUDED The Dunedin Orphans’ Club brought a highly successful and enjoyable season to a close last night when a particularly entertaining programme was presented. There was a large attendance of members, and visitors were present from various parts of the Dominion, even from as far-afield as Australia. The president (Bro. C. J. L. White) 3 occupied the chair. After welcoming those present the chairman referred to the death of Mr G, M. Mac Lean, the club’s auditor, and also sympathised with Bro. J. Vivian in the death of his wife. Motions of sympathy were carried in the customary manner. The evening’s programme was attractively varied, and every item was well received. Songs were contributed by (Brothers S. G. Angell, A. Macdonald. C. R. Williamson, M. F, O’Sullivan and A. Walmsley; humorous numbers by Brothers A. N. Watson, J. A. Haggitt, R. Wilson Brown and N. S. Murphy; a recitation by Bro. C. H, Russell; a vocal duet by Brothers J. W. G. Pringle and R. M’Dougall; a violin solo by Bro. M. Johnston: and a pianoforte solo by Bro. Gil Dech. The club’s orchestra, under the baton of Bro. T . Clark, presented enjoyable items, a special number being a composition by Signor Squarise, who took over the baton for the piece. Items were also given by Mr Arthur Hemsley, a visiting Australian comedian, and by Savage F. Baker, of the Auckland Savage Club. All the items were greatly enjoyed, and the evening’s programme proved a fitting climax to a successful season.
