ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION
The annual meeting of the Otago Home Economics Association was held in the Home Science Department of the Otago University last night, Miss Calder presiding over a large attendance of members. ADOPTION OF REPORT The adoption of the annual report and balance sheet was moved by Mrs S. M. Park, who said that the activities of the association were all-embracing. The action of Professor Strong in throwing open the demonstrations by the senior home science students to the members of the association was highly appreciated. Mrs Park said she was satisfied to observe that a number of young women were showing an interest in the activities of the association. The nev* constitution of the association, the speaker continued, had not been evolved without the expenditure of a great deal of time and thought, and she warned members against following any will-o’-the-wisp, stressing the need for a close adherence to the aims and objects of the association, as defined in the constitution, and an avoidance of anything savouring of extremism. Their president (Miss Calder) hhd guided them during the year with infinite tact and kindness, and the secretary (Miss Stevenson) and the treasurer (Mrs Laidlaw) had also carried out their work faithfully and expertly. Mrs Park concluded by expressing the hope thaUthe association would increase in strength until it became a definite power in the land. Mrs Keith Cameron seconded the motion, which was carried. The following motion was carried with enthusiasm: —“ That in recognition of the unfailing interest she has taken in this association since its inception, Mrs S. M. Park be made a life member." EXHIBITION The treasurer reported that approximately £39 had been received from the exhibition recently conducted by the association. . The retiring president paid a tribute to all who had helped to make the exhibition a success, and spoke of the value of such displays as a means of showing people what the association was doing. She thanked Professor Strong for the keen interest she had shown in the association’s affairs and her ever-ready help. She prized more than she could say the friendships she had formed during her two years as president, and although she was now vacating the chair, she hoped she would retain those friendships, for her interest in the association remained unabated. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs Reilly; vice-president. Mrs Cooper. HOME SCIENCE IN INDIA An interesting address on the growth of the home science movement in India since 1923 was given by Miss Eipe, the vice-principal of St. Christopher’s College, of Madras, who is at present visiting New Zealand on behalf of .the Indian branch of the movement. Miss Eipe traced the gradual advance of home science training in Madras since 1923, and outlined the general activities of the students in the college to which she is attached. At the conclusion of her address Miss Eipe was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
