LAWRENCE

Church Anniversary Service The anniversary services on Sunday of the Lawrence Presbyterian Church were conducted by the Rev. H. H. Barton, of Weston, moderator of the General Assembly. The morning service was largely attended, and took the form of a combined communion service. The moderator noted that it was the seventy-second anniversary of the establishment of the Presbyterian congregation and the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the present church, which was dedicated by the late Dr Stuart. The preacher congratulated the congregation on reaching such a memorable event in the church’s history. The special collection for the church funds for the day was £7l. The moderator also conducted the twentieth anniversary service of the Waitahuna West Church on Sunday afternoon.

Football The football season terminated on Saturday last, when Lawrence played Waitahuna in the final for the Dewar’s Cup, the score being: Waitahuna 4 (a goal potted by Perriam) and Lawrence 3 (a penalty goal kicked by M'Kenzie). The game was a fast and interesting one. Dr Sutherland, president of the South Tuapeka Sub-union, when presenting the trophy to the winners, congratulated them on their good all-round display during the season.
