IMPETUS TO COTTON GROWING A LANCASHIRE PROJECT FREMANTLE, August 19. Mr Latham Withall, the newlyappointed secretary of the Associated Chambers of Manufacturers in Australia, who arrived from England by the Oxford, said arrangements had been made for an important group of Lancashire cotton and textile manufacturers to establish works in Australia. This would give an impetus to cotton growing in the Commonwealth. MR COLLIER'S SUCCESSOR PERTH, August 19. Mr J. C. Willcock, Minister of Justice and Railways, has been elected Premier in succession to Mr P. Collier, who resigned on account of ill-health. GERMANY'S BARTER PROPOSAL SYDNEY, August 18. The German Consul-general at Sydney (Dr Asmis) is negotiating with the Sydney County Council and seeking favourable consideration for the batering of £500,000 worth of Australian wool in payment for the expensive electrical equipment required for the main power house at Bunnerong. The County Council is favourably impressed with the idea on the principle that it might lead to the development of Australian primary products, and the matter will be discussed with the State Government. MISSING SKIERS FOUND MELBOURNE, August 19. (Received August 19, at 11.30 p.m.) The missing skiers. Cole and Hull, were found alive. The men were found at a spot where their fellow-skier, Mitchell, left them on Friday in order to seek help. Cole is reported to be in a very oad way, bi Hull was able to struggle to his i ! ee ( when the rescuers arrived at 8.30 a.m. yesterday. Both men had to be carried five miles to the nearest packhorses, and it is thought that they will be able to reach Omeo hospital by this evening. The men had been without food for nine days and exposed to the worst blizzard within the memory of local residents.
