THE WHALING INDUSTRY

BRITISH COMPANIES LIMITING PRODUCTION LONDON, August 18. Whaling companies, after consultation with Whitehall, decided not to act at present. They emphasised that there was no dispute between British whaling interests and the Norwegian Government, but British companies proposed a whaling period restricted to three months from December 8 for the whole of the Southern Hemisphere. They are also prepared to limit production to 900,000 barrels and to use only one land station, providing Norwegian interests agree to a similar plan limiting the output to 1,409,000 barrels. The British Government considers these proposals most reasonable.
