Magistrate's Court A sitting of the Tapanui Magistrate's Court was held on Tuesday before Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M. MOTOR OFFENCES James W. Hollows, for using an unregistered motor cycle and being an unlicensed driver, was fined 5s and costs (12) on each charge. F. S. Little (Dunedin) was fined 10s and costs (10s) for cutting a corner in Northumberland street, Tapanui. For a similar offence L. Heeney (Gore) was fined 10s and costs (10s). WANDERING STOCK On the information of the county ranger (Mr R. J. Cowie), J. H. Simons for allowing a horse to be at large was convicted and ordered to pay witnesses expenses (ss). Similarly charged in respect to a cow A. L. Jenkins was convicted and ordered to pay 5s expenses BREACH OF BY-LAWS N. Wilson. A. King, and D. Johnston, all of Balclutha, were, on the information of the caretaker of Whisky Gully, charged with carrying firearms and shooting in the gully contrary to the by-laws. Each defendant was convicted and, fined 10s and costs (10s>. WAGES DISPUTE Robert M'Lelland claimed from Leonard Jackson the sum of £l3 0s 6d for wages, money lent, and articles lent. After evidence had been heard the magistrate gave judgment for £l3 4s 6d, together with costs (£5 15s). The same defendant was proceeded against by Ernest A, Clement for £8 7s for wages collected by defendant as his agent on a threshing mill. The plaintiff was awarded £7 Is 6d and costs (£3 10s). Tapanui Racing Club The annual meeting of the Tapanui Racing Club was held on Wednesday, when there was an attendance of 44 members, the president (Mr J. A. M'Donald) being in the chair. Before commencing the business of the meeting members stood for a moment out of respect to his late Majesty the King, and two very old members, the late Mr A. M'lntyrc and Mr C. W. Keeley, who had both died since the last annual meeting. The president briefly addressed tho meeting, and stated that the year had ended with a profit of 15s 2d. The nominations and acceptances were well back on the previous year, as was the totalisator. The meeting had been quite a success, and some fine finishes had taken place with fast times recorded. He looked forward to better times with an increased totalisator turnover. A fair sum had been spent on the track, which was now in first-class order. He thanked the donors of trophies (Messrs D. Ruthven and D. M'Dougall. M.P.) for their generosity. He stated that he had great assistance from his committee, and had no anxiety or worry throughout his term of office. He moved the adontion of the balance sheet as nrinted, which Mr J. D. Edgar seconded, the motion being carried without discussion. The election of office-bearers resulted:—President. Mr J. A M'Donald; vice-nresidents—Messrs J. D. Edgar, M. M'Auley, and D. Ruthven; committee—Messrs D. M'Pherson, A. S. Edgnr, K. Rodger, A. Munvard. and V. r . B. Naylor; secretary, Mr Thomas Edgar; auditor. Mr H. J. Hay. GENERAL It was decided to raise the stakes for the annual meeting by up to £IOO. Six new members were elected.
