In connection with the use of the grounds at Girls’ High School, all must refrain from walking on the grass. All referees are asked to take particular care to use only gymnastic shoes when refereeing on any of the association’s courts. As rubber-soled shoes apply to a large assortment of various types of shoes, it was felt desirable, by the members of the Management Committee, to specify a particular type of rubber-soled shoo.

FIRST GRADE TRAINING COLLEGE I r. M’KENZIE’S.

One of the features in the match played between Training College I and J. R. M'Konzlo's was Miss Lucy Lauren’s display in M'Kenzie’s defensive third. Her handling and interceptive work was of a high order, and she was well aided by Misses Ann Reidv and Mavis Hastic. The College forwards found this trio’s defence hard to penetrate. Miss E, Rosevcarc (College) was the most prominent centre on the field. IJer handling and the manner in which she turned defence into attack was a marked feature of tho game. Alisa Anderson (College) and Miss E, .Morrison (M’Konzie’s) were also in excellent form. The M’Kemdo’s forwards showed an improvement in their play, while Miss M. Morrison was successful with three long-range goals. Miss Swift (defence) and Miss Geddes (shoot) played well for College. The final score was J. R. M'Kenzie’s 8, Training College I

SECOND GRADE ROSLYN v. WOOLWORTH’S,

The game played between Roslyn and Woolworth’s produced the best basketball witnessed in the Second Grade this year. The play was of an extremely high standard, both teams excelling themselves. In the first half the teams were evenly matched, especially in the centre third, where quick passing and clever interceptions were a feature. By a strongly combined effort. Roslyn opened the score with two successful goals. A fine passing movement by Woohvorth’s forwards gained them the next goal. An even, hard-fought game brought the score to 10—8 in Roslyn’s favour at half time. In tho second half both teams fought hard for the supremacy, but the determined and tireless efforts of Roslyn’s defenders, together with the accurate shooting of the three forwards, gave Roslyn tho lead. The honours in the scoring for Roslyn were evenly shared, but for Woolworth’s Miss Smith was outstanding. The combined team play of Roslyn enabled it to maintain its load until time was called, the final score being 20—14 in its favour.

THIRD GRADE TRIUMPH v. J. R. M'KENZIE’S

Triumph had matters- all its own way in its game against M'Kenzie’s. The forwards have an excellent combination, with Miss M. Stratlulcc outstanding and Miss Rankestcr a close second. Misa Williamson played a splendid game in the centre third, handling the b.>ll in an excellent manner for a player in this grade. Despite the strong opposition, J. R. M'Kenzie’s should have produced better basketball. Many attacking movements broke down through bad handling of the ball, this defect being easily remedied through constant practice in' ball exercises. Miss Smith (defence) and Misses M’Keitch and M'Mullen (centre) were conspicuous for good work.

NORTH OTAGO Although North Otago is necessarily late in opening its basketball season, it does not lose any time in making arrangements for its activities throughout the season. Already plans have been made for some of its representative games, while inquiries concerning others are now under way. The opening tournament, held last week on the Waitaki Girls’ High School courts, was a very successful function Blessed by warm, sunny weather, both players and officials enjoyed the day’s play immensely. Of the 11 competing teams, five played in the A Grade and six in the B. As is to be expected in any tournament, the standard of play varied, although some of the teams produced basketball of a high standard. Waitaki A was the successful contestant for the second time in succession, the runners-up being Oamaru A, although Star made a determined effort to wrest the honours from it. In its game against Waitaki A, this team kept up a determined pressure throughout, and forced the winning team to make use of every possible opportunity to send the ball to its goal area. Scoring was very low, only five goals being registered during the course of the game. In the B Grade Enfield gained 10 points, Star filling second place with 8. These two teams tied for top place last year, but Enfield's good combination accounted for its greater success on this occasion.

WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION Wellington Association lias advanced a step further than the local association in that it has published a list of players who are to take part in representative trials.
