THE CORONATION

OFFICIAL DATE ANNOUNCED LONDON, May 28. The official date of the coronation is May 12. KING APPROVES DATE (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, May 28. The King formally approved the date of the coronation when he signed an Order-in-Council at a meeting of the Privy Council held at Buckingham Palace this morning. TERMS OF PROCLAMATION LONDON, May 29. (Received May 29, al 11.55 p.m.) The proclamation h be read to-mor-row will be couched in traditional phraseology. The established Committee on Claims dispenses with the attendance of persons claiming to perform ancient services in Westminster Hall or the procession, thereby eliminating the ceremonies at the coronation banquet, when a steel-clad royal champion formerly rode in, threw down the gauntlet, and challenged other claimants to the Throne. This was last seen vhen George IV was crowned in 1821. It is expected that the coronation festivities, including the procession through London, will be linked with the Whitsuntide holidays. Probably 3.000.000 people desire to witness the coronation procession, compared with between 3,000,000 and 4,000,000 who saw King George’s funeral.
