AN INTERSTATE LINER FORCED LANDING ON BEACH (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, March 19. Holyman's interstate air liner Momma, from Melbourne, carrying, two passengers, a pilot, and mail, made a forced landing on a narrow beach at Thirroul, on the south coast, last night. The plane, which left Canberra at, 5 p.m., ran into dense fog. The pilot, deciding not to attempt to reach Sydney, circled over Thirroul until the residents, realising his predicament, rushed to the beach and lighted flares. About 50 cars focussed their headlights on the sand. The plane came down to a perfect landing and stopped a few feet from the water’s edge. HONOUR FOR MISS BATTEN PARIS, March 18. Lc Joui’nal announced that Miss Jean Batten will shortly be made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, similar to Colonel Lindbergh and Mrs EarhartPutnam. SYDNEY TO ADELAIDE RACE ADELAIDE, March 18. The State Centenary Committee decided to award a £IOOO prize for an air race from Sydney to Adelaide via Melbourne, finishing on December 18, followed by an aerial pageant.
