LONDON TRAMS GOING

In 1935 London Transport, in a programme of conversion, ordered 690 trolleybuses to supersede the tramcars in London and . the suburbs (writes the Observer). It is hoped that this substitution will help to relieve traffic congestion in crowded areas. Already over 100 of the buses are in operation. Two hundred and seventy buses for which a contract has been placed are for service in North and blast London, on routes included in the scheme for the conversion of tramways to trolley-bus operation, for which parliamentary sanction has been obtained. In 1931 there were 18 miles of trolleybus routes with 60 buses in operation in Kingston and Twickenham areas. Since that time, the experiment having proved, satisfactory, gradual replacement of the tramear has taken place.
