NATIONAL COURSING ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING . i The thirty-ninth annual meeting of the National Coursing Association was held on Wednesday evening, Mr B. S. Irwin presiding over the following members:—Messrs H. L. Gallien, W. Hemiley, E. G. Price, J. Gold, R. Penman, T. M’Mullen, A. L. Mitchell, C. R. Marks, J. H. Pearson, C. C. O’Hara, D. Garside. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report stated, inter alia: It is pleasing to .report that during the past year the sport was successfully carried on by the 13 affiliated clubs, who also received a great measure of support from the enthusiastic leashmen throughout the Dominion. The sport in general is showing a decided improvement, as evidenced by the fact that a new club has been formed in Huntly, and, although not yet affiliated, a new club has been recently formed in Timaru, while it is understood that the sport, on the West Coast is being re-established. The Waihi, Wairarapa, and Patea clubs have functioned fairly well during the past season, and it is hoped that during the incoming year they will continue to consolidate their respective positions.' The South Otago Club has moved to a new plumpton nearer the town of Balclutha, and the future for chig club under new conditions appears very bright. The Nightcaps and Southland clubs have also considerably improved their coursing grounds. The Dunedin Club has been busily engaged during the summer months in erecting a new fence, and all facilities for an up-to-date plumpton. The 1935 Derby and Oaks were ably controlled by the North Otago Club, and the meeting proved most successful. The Derby was won by Mr J. Benson’s Satin Boy and the Oaks by Mr T. H. Hammond’s Vanity Fair. The Waterloo Cup for 1935 was held under the jurisdiction of the Hamilton Club. This classic was won by Mr J. Hannan’s Rhodesia, but it is regrettable to state that this dog vyas unregistered, with the result that the cup had to be re-run. Mr C. Huon’s Father Emerson was eventually declared the winner, with Mr T. Brown’s Misty Maid runnerup. The 1936 Waterloo, the Derby and Oaks, and the St. Legcr, have' been allotted to the Christchurch, North Otago, and Wairarapa clubs respectively, and it is sincerely hoped that these classics will be well patronised by owners throughout the Dominion. | In moving the adoption of the annual : report and balance sheet, Mr Irwin ! spoke on the good progress which had ! been made by the various clubs, and, ! although a lean period had been experienced during the past depression, the sport of coursing was now steadily'consolidating its position. He also stated that since the drawing up of the report it had been decided by the council that tin-hare racing should be allowed all the year round. This had resulted in the affiliation of the Metropolitan Greyhound Racing Club, Auckland, and the Poverty Bay Greyhound Club. The report was adopted. OFFICE-BEARERS.
