TAIERI POULTRY SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Taieri Poultry Society was held on Saturday night. Mr B. Smeaton presided. The annual report and balance sheet were read by Mr J W. Craigie (secretary). The report showed that the last exhibition was worthy of the district, but there had been a drop in the receipts, ami to balance the accounts the reserves had to be drawn on jlr Smeaton appealed to members V’ take steps this year to make toe show such a success that the lost ground would be regained. _ . . . . The secretary of the South Island Poultry Association notified that the following championships had been allotted for the next show:—Black Orpington male, open class; Old English game cokerel: utility Australorp male—Noted. Notification was also received that the date allotted for the Taieri Show was Saturday, July 4. The following office-hearers were elected:—President, Mr E. J. Wilson; vice-president, Mr J. Williamson; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. W. Craigie; committee, last year’s number re-elected, with the addition of Mr J. Hines; auditors, Messrs J. P. Walls and R. Smeaton. . Mr R. Smeaton was elected a life member. S -mpathetic reference was made to the deaths of two life members who had been enthusiastic workers for many years Messrs J. M’Gettigan and Smart. A discussion arose on the schedule. The farmers’ class had not been too web supported, and ‘it was suggested that this be altered to farmers’ and novice class. Thai would give opportunity to many to exhibit who were not prepared to enter in the open classes. At the close of the meeting the retiring president thanked the outgoing officebearers and all who had helped during the past year.
