INJURIES TO WORKERS
NEW COMPENSATION COURT INCLUSION OF MEDICAL MAN (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 9. An announcement that he was considering the creation of another court to deal with workers’ compensation eases was made to-day by the Minister of Labour (Mr H. T. Armstrong). He stated that it was anticipated that, under the new legislation which would restore the powers of the Arbitration Court, the tribunal would be kept very busy. He had not decided definitely on the constitution of the additional court, but his view was that it should consist of a judge, a doctor, and a workers’ representative. The Minister also stated that he would have four Bills ready for the session. These would be the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill, the Workers’ Compensation Amendment Bill, the Factories Act Amendment Bill, and the Shops and Offices Act Amendment Bill. He was not certain whether the amendments to the Apprenticeship Act would be ready this session. Mr Armstrong said the principle of the 40-hour week would be embodied in all his legislation, and would apply in practice unless an employer could show cause why it should not be applied in his particular case.
