GIRL CLERK'S DEFALCATIONS COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 4. On a charge of fraudulently omitting to account for or pay sums totalling £554 4s 4d to her employers, the Art Cabinet Company, Kathleen Hester Hes-e, a cashier, aged 22, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, and” pleaded guilty, Isaac Gotlieb. manager, said the accused had been employed as cashier sine April, 1935, at 15s a week, which was increased to £1 at the end of the year. The accused admitted taking money when the discrepancies were discovered. She said she purchased furniure, amounting to £7O or £BO. Before leaving the office she handed to witness £l7, and, later, £lll, which she drew from the bank. Next day she sent £3. Cross-examined, witness said the accused handled close to £IOOO a month. The simplest check between the receipt book and the cash book at the time of a discrepancy would have revealed it. Detective Murray said the accused had statcu that she spent £274 12s on the purchase of furniture and a radio, the hire of a “ bach ” and a car. She was committed to the Supreme Cour*- for sentence, :..iil being allowed in the sum of £SO.
