THORNDON RAMP
REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE
RAILWAYS DEPARTMENT APPROACHED

WELLINGTON, February 19.
A suggestion that the Railways Department should contribute an extra fCOOO towards the cost of the construction of the Thorndon ramp was made by the Mayor of Wellington (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) wdien heading a deputation from the Wellington City and Suburban Highways Board to the Minister of Public Works (Mr R. Semple) and the Minister of Railways (Mr D. G. Sullivan) to-day. The proposal did not receive the endorsement of Mr Sullivan, who maintained that the Government was already making a large enough contribution, an<7 after some discussion the matter was left in the hands of the city solicitor (Mr J. O’Shea), the general manager of railways (Mr G. H. Mackley), and the assistant engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department (Mr J. Wood) in the hope that it would be possible to reach an agreement.
