M.C.C. TEAM’S TOUR A DRAWN GAME (Per United Press, Association) HAMILTON, February 19. As a result of the heavy rain early in the morning there was no play this morning between the M.C.C. team and Piako, but after an inspection of the wicket after lunch the game was resumed. Despite the rain the outfield was firm, and the matting wicket was little effected. The weather conditions were threatening throughout the afternoon. A vigorous last wicket stand “by the Auckland veteran, N. C. Snedden and D. M‘Rae was a feature of Piako’s innings.

On resumption of Piako’s innings, seven wickets were down for 100, Snedden and Langton, the not out men, opened to the bowling of Sims and Human. Langton was bowled by Sims, and Cleverley, who followed, fell a victim to an leg before wicket decision. M‘Rae then joined Sneddon and the pair made a good stand, the partnership being broken when M‘Rae was completely beaten by Langridge, The M.C.C. innings opened sensation-ally.-Sims was cleverly caught by Langton and Parks was dismissed leg before wicket shortly after. Mitchell-Innes was then caught at point, making three wickets down for three runs. Barber and Langridge were then associated and played cautiously, but on the former’s dismissal Human and Langridge opened out and pulled the game out of the fire, stumps being drawn with four wickets down for 100. OTAGO ASSOCIATION MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the executive of the Otago Cricket Association was held last night. Mr A. H. Allen presided. CORRESPONDENCE. The secretary of the Albion Club wrote advising that next season the club intended to register an Albion-Technical High School Old Boys’ team in a junior grade. The Technical team was at present playing in League cricket, but wished to join a club which could offer better facilities for practice. The Albion Club wished to know whether this would meet with the approval of the association. —After discussion, it was decided to refer the matter to the incoming committee, with a recommendation that it be favourably considered. The secretary of the Otago Centre of the Amateur Athletic Association wrote asking that the association postpone its matches on Saturday on account of the New Zealand championships being held at Carisbrook that day. —It was decided that matches he played as usual. The secretary of the Otago Rugby Football Union wrote stating that, ns the Cricket Association had made n serious loss on the Otago v. M.C.C. mdteh, his committee had resolved to reduce the charge for the rental of the ground to 10 per cent., in place of the customary 25 per cent.—lt was decided that a letter of thanks be sent to the union for its generous action. The secretary of the Auckland Association wrote advising that his association had opposed an application for affiliation to the New Zealand Council by the North Auckland Association on the grounds that there was a danger of minor associations securing the balance of voting power over the major associations. He asked that the Otago Association support Auckland in its resolution. —It was decided, on the motion of Mr F. N. BinneV, to support Auckland in its action. MR J. J. CLARK.

The following minute of appreciation of the late Mr J. J. Clark’s services to the association was carried:—“That this association places on record its appreciation of the outstanding services rendered by the late Mr J. J. Clark to the game of cricket in New Zealand generally, and more particularly in Otago. This association realises with grateful thanks that over a period of approximately 40 years Mr Clark worked untiringly in the interests of cricket, and gave freely both of his time and money to benefit and advance the game he loved so well. The association recognises that the conditions under which cricket is played to-day are largely due to the foresight and enthusiasm of supporters of the game such as Mr Clark.” POSTPONEMENT OF GAMES. The action of the Grade Committee in postponing all matches on February 8 w'as severely criticised by Mr A. Martin, who stated that he had inspected the four principal grounds and was of the opinion that games could have been played early in the afternoon on any of the grounds. It was by no means too wet to play, and moreover it was in the hands of the umpires and not the committee to postpone matches on the second day’s play. Mr W. Brookes said he strongly resented the remarks, which were practically a vote of no-confidence in the Grade Committee. It had been raining nearly all Saturday morning and there was a heavy shower at 11.30. The committee had obtained reports from the groundsmen who stated that the grounds were not in a condition to warrant play. A lot of rain had fallen and it looked like raining all the afternoon. Mr Tannock was very annoyed at League cricket matches being played on the Oval and had stated that he would not prepare wickets for them again this season. The grade rules gave the committee the right to postpone matches on the second day, and the committee had considered that it was in the interests of cricketers as a whole to postpone all games.

Dr A. Reid then moved that the action of the Grade Committee be approved, and, after further discussion, the motion was carried. FIELDING PRACTICE.

Mr Valentine stated that the fielding of Otago cricketers was generally poor,

and he moved that It be a recommendation to the incoming Coaching Committee that special nights be set aside next season for fielding practice.—Carried. SATURDAY’S MATCHES.

Reports on the matches played by Dunedin teams against Southland, North Otago and South Otago were given respectively by Messrs A. Martin. J. A. Robson and A. G. Valentine. —The reports were received, and it was decided that letters be sent to the home associations thanking them for the hospitality extended to the Dunedin teams.

The chairman stated that in future the teams to play against these associations should be known as Dunedin tea s and not Otago sides as they were not at all representative of the province.

MATCH AGAINST AUCKLAND

Mr J. M. M'Mullan reported on the visit of the Otago team to Auckland, stating that the players were greatly affected by the heat, but there was no doubt that on the run of the play Auckland was the better team. The most satisfactory features were the splendid fielding of the team and the fine showing of the colts. The hospitality accorded the team by the Auckland Association, and especially by Mr Fee (president) and Mr H. Duncan, was all that could b desired. On the return journey members of the. team were the guests of the Wellington Association at the Basin Reserve during the CanterburyWellington match.—lt was decided that Mr M’Mullan be thanked for his report and that letters of thanks bo cent to the Auckland and Wellington Associations. CONGRATULATIONS. It was decided that the congratulations of the O go Association be extended to the Wellington Association on winning the Plnnkct Shield. It was also decided that congratulations be extended to the Otago team l;i its win against Canterbury. NUMBER OF SENIOR TEAMS. The chairman asked members if they were desirous of discussing the question of limiting the number of senior teams for next season. Mr Garth Galloway stated that great interest was being taken by the public in this matter, and he wanted to know if tic committee was prepared to face up to the position.

At this stage it was decided that the remainder of the business be taken in committee.
