(Per United Press Association) PALMERSTON N„ February 15,

On the suggestion of the Minister of Public Works, Mr R. Semple, representatives of the City Council and the Mann-watu-Oroua Power Board held a conference regarding the rates on which the council will take a supply of electricity from the board, a' subject which has been in dispute for many months. An offer was made by each side, but both were rejected and the deadlock continues. At a sitting of the Magistrate's Court Bertram Gillmari, aged 19, with two aliases, was charged with being an incorrigible rogue in that he escaped from the Palmerston North gaol and was also required to answer 13 charges of theft, the total involved being £125 3a 31d. The offences were committed at Palmerston North, Marton, Hawera, Waitara, Tikorangi, Johnsonville, Awahuri, Masterton, and Foxton. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced in all to 26 months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
