MELBA BEQUEST SCHOLARSHIP

Mr Fritz Hart, director of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, in whom the powers of award were vested by Dame Nellie Melba, has decided to extend the scholarship, at present held by Mies Hinemoa Kosieum, a New Zealand girl, for a further 12 months. The next award will be made in 1937, and the scholarship will be tenable for two years. This scholarship, to the value of £IOO per year for tuition, also provides additional emoluments at the director’s discretion, including an allowance for or towards maintenance, and an allowance for books, music, etc. It is probably the most valuable scholarship over made available in Australia or New Zealand for singing. The recipient of the scholarships will, if she continues to show promise and makes satisfactory progress, be placed in a most advantageous position in the pursuit of a singing career. The conservatorium offers full and part scholarships for sing ing, piano, and violin for 1936. Information may be obtained from the secretary.
