THE WELLINGTON CUP

ELLIS TO RIDE KINNOULL (Special to Daily Times) WELLINGTON. January 14. L. J. Ellis will ride Kinnoull in the Wellington Gup. He has advised the connections of Cuddle to this effect. Though a Timaru report says that, while Kinnoull has paid up in the Cup, a definite decision regarding his starting will not be made till later, it must be fairly definite for Ellis to forego a. ride on Cuddle. When Ellis informed Cuddle’s party of his inability to take the mount on the mare an effort was made to secure the services of R. Reed, but Reed is engaged to ride Grand Jury. ’ The mount will remain vacant in the meantime and there should be no difficulty in securing the services of a competent rider, as there is a limited number in the Cup over light-weights. It is the intention of J. W. Lowe to start both Red Sun and Sunee in the Wellington Cup. Red Sun wil be ridden by the southern light-weight C. T. Wilson, and Sunee will again have the services of G. Tattersall. Steady rain last night and to-day-- has softened the tracks at Trentham and they will be in excellent order for the meeting provided the weather clears. There are no visiting horses at Trentham yet, and as usual the bulk of the outside contingent is not expected till near the eve of the meeting. * . Cuddle has resumed strong work again and a mile on Saturday was followed by another this morning. She does not do exceptionally fast work on the tracks, but she is in her usual good order.
