NEW AUCKLAND TUG

CONSTRUCTION COMPLETED SUCCESSFUL TRIALS (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 30. The construction of the Auckland Harbour Board's new tug William C. Daiciy has been completed, and the vessel will leave the .yards of Messrs Lobnitz and Co.. Renfrew', Glasgow, for New Zealand next week, This afternoon a cablegram was received by the board from Messrs E. H. Mitchell and Co., consulting naval architects, of Newcastle-on-Tyne, to the effect that the tug had successfully completed its trials, the mean speed over a measured mile being 13.4 knots. The towing test, it was stated, had shown a considerable margin over the static pull specified in the contract. Ths purchase of a second tug for the port of Auckland followed a delay in the berthing of the liner Strathaird on November 23 of last year. The new tug is of 150 tons register, with a length of 12.1 ft, a beam of 32ft, and a mean draught of 13ft. The cost in New Zealand currency of the vessel delivered at Auckland will'be £40,000. The tug is expected to arrive here early in January.
