GIANT FLYING BOATS
FOR IMPERIAL AIRWAYS TOTAL FLEET OF THIRTY LONDON, October/28. (Received Oct. 28, at 11 p.m.) The Daily Telegraph's aeronautical correspondent says Imperial Airways will shortly order 15 giant flying boats, bringing the total fleet to 30. This may be regarded as the first step towards a regular trans-Atlantic service. Each plane will have a range of 1500 miles, with a cruising speed of 160 miles an hour. The Atlantic service will probably take advantage of the prevailing west to east winds, the eastward service going direct from Newfoundland to Ireland, and the westward via the Azores and the Bermudas, where the winds are more favourable.
