HURRICANE'S TOLL

THOUSANDS DEAD OR MISSING WEST INDIES DISASTER (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) PORT AU PRINCE, October 27. (Received Oct. 28, at 11.30 p.m.) Official sources to-night estimated that at least 2000 persons are dead or missing as the result of the hurricane which swept the southern peninsula last weekend. The crop damage is not believed to be as great as was at first feared, but thousands are homeless and hungry, as heavy rains accompanying the hurricane forced all streams far out of their banks. The Jeremie region was the hardest hit.
