DUNEDIN AND KAIKORAI TRAM COMPANY

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In last Friday morning's Daily Times I noticed a reply by the manager of the Dunedin and Kaikorai Tram Company to a letter by me, in which he sidestepped the point in question. Before I wrote my letter I had obtained the information which he gives, and I never said that the young lady mentioned by me should not have vacated her seat. What I did object to was the insulting manner in which she was addressed, this being absolutely uncalled for. I may mention that this young lady was seated before the car became crowded and was not given a chance to stand on her own initiative. Moreover, if I remember rightly, she offered her seat, but it was refused. . , . . . The way to obtain courtesy is to be courteous. I do not think there is another tramway management anywhere else in New Zealand who would grant a concession to workers or school children under such conditions. Personally, I would sooner walk than sign such an agreement as that which accompanies the concesSl °i n ' take it that your correspondent " Cattish " is of the opinion that the employees of the company show more consideration for "cats" than they do for the human freight which they carry Well on that point I beg to differ from them. 1 have always found that the employees apart from one or two who become a bit disagreeable at times, are a //ry obliging and amiable body of men If" Cattish were to join the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals he might then be fully qualified to join the Society for the Protection of Women and Children. This ends the correspondence so far aa I am concerned.-I am, etc., msQVsmr)
