THE CITY RESERVES
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —" No matter what the protests are the destruction still goes on." All thanks to " Bush Lover" for the letter in your columns yesterday, but it appears that nothing short of a mass meeting of ratepayers will have any influence in causing a cessation of the wanton destruction of our native bush. " Bush Lover's " description of the kowhai and other native trees being deprived of their natural seedbeds on account of the wholesale removal of ferns and moss is in no way exaggerated. No one admires English trees more than I, in their appropriate place; but Dunedin has a characteristic setting. Why not retain it? The opening sentences of this letter, which are a quotation from a letter that appeared a short time ago, exactly illustrate the unfortunate position in connection with our reserves. —I am, etc., To Arms.
