A NEW PRINCIPAL

UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN MR WILLIAM 4 FYFE APPOINTED LONDON, October 19. The King has approved the appointment of Mr William Hamilton Fyfe, principal and vice-chancellor of Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, to be principal of the University of Aberdeen, in succession to the Very Rev. Sir George Adam Smith, whose resignation will take effect at the end of the month. The Very Rev. Sir George Adam Smith has been principal and vice-chancellor of Aberdeen University since 1909. He was born in India in 1850. His first ministerial charge was at Brechin in 1880. Afterwards he held various teaching positions in Great Britain and United States universities. He is the author of numerous books, particularly in relation to Old Testament studies. Mr William Hamilton Fyfe is a noted scholar, and was formerly a Fellow of Merton College, Oxford. He has been principal of Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, since 1930. He is 57 years of age.
