OTAGO SKI CLUB

CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING The Otago Ski Club held its annual championships at the Rock and Pillar Range yesterday, • On Saturday the weather was not at all promising, a blizzard raging at the base hut all night, but Sunday broke fine and clear, although snow covered the flats. An early start was made up the hill, and when a good snowfield was reached the conditions were found to be perfect, with dry, powdered snow to a depth cl two feet and only a light breeze. A stiff course was set for the Slaborn Championship, and, running well, Lloyd Divers took first place from his younger brother, Arnold Divers, who, though only a junior member, put up a very creditable performance. R. Grant was third.

The course for the Downhill Championship was set down a rough and tricky gully, which called for great control. In a very exciting and fast race C. E. Smith won from Lloyd Divers, with R. Grant third. The Ladies’ Downhill Race resulted in a win for Miss Daphne Samson, with Miss D. Green a close second. Mr B. R. Hill was starter and timekeeper. During the week-end a considerable amount of work was done at the hut, the large living room being completely floored. The work was done by club members.
