COMMUNITY SINGING

The weekly session of community singing will be held on Friday in the Strand Theatre, by courtesy of Messrs FullerHayward. The sing will start at 12.15 p.m.. and not 12.30, so that the extra quarter of an hour will give the leader a better chance to put on more songs. Last week the theatre was packed and the singing was very good. Miss Mary Pratt (contralto) has kindly offered to assist this week, and her items should give great pleasure to those attending and listeners-in. Mr H. P. Desmoulins will be the leader, and another good programme is being arranged. Mr Alf. Pettitt will be at the piano. The committee is very pleased with the donations ,of goods that have been sent in, and these find a ready sale on the stall, which is'in charge of Mrs M'lntyre. Donations of goods or money can be sent to Begg's or the Strand Theatre. The proceeds will be for the Mayor's Relief Fund. SATURDAY NIGHT'S SESSION. The popularity of Mr Alan Brown as a leader of community singing was evidenced yesterday, when the box plans opened, as over 1000 seats were taken during the day. Next Saturday night will be Mr Brown's first public appearance as a " sing " leader in Dunedin. and also Mr Goodland's first appearance as a pianist. The assisting artists will be Miss Hazel Walker, who will sing "I Love You So," from "The Merry Widow"; Miss Joy Gray, who will give her impersonations in " You Must Say 'Yes' to Mr Brown"; Mr Arthur MacDonald, who will sing "Here's My Song"; and Miss Lily Stevens's ballet, " Scotland's Own," will also be seen. The Revellers' Dance Band, with Mr Ted Heaney and Mr Ted Andrews as soloists, will complete the programme. The proceeds will be devoted to the Toe H wireless in relief camps appeal, and patrons are advised to reserve their seats at Begg's, as there was a keen demand yesterday. '
