MOSGIEL COURT

(Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) Fbidat, April 12. CIVIL CASES. Judgment by default was given for plaintiffs in the following cases:—H. Swallow and Co. v. George Clark (Dunedin), claim £7 10s, with costs (15s) and solicitor's fee (15s 6d); A. A. Pitfield v. E. J. L. Cleary (Dunedin), claim £6 6s, with costs (15s) and solicitor's fee (15s Gd) ; A. Y. Hendry v. D. Murchison (Hedgehope), claim £ll 7s, with costs (225) and solicitor's fee (21s 6d); Margaret Goodlet v. E. J. L. Cleary (Dunedin), claim £3 2s 6d, with costs (8s) and solicitor's fee (15s 6d) ; Arthur Birley v. D. C. Revill (Mosgiel Junction), claim £3 15s, with costs (10s) and solicitor's fee (15s 6d), P. Y. Bell v. G. M'Leod (Dunedin), claim £1 2s, with costs (lis). MOTORING OFFENCES. Peter Boyd (North Taieri), for riding a bicycle in Gordon road without a light, was fined 5s and court costs (10s). Dr Stuart A.' Moore (Roslyn), for negligently driving a motor car in Gordon road, was fined £3 and court costs (£2 8s). He was also charged with cutting the corner at the intersection of Gordon road and Wycliffe street, and on this count was convicted and discharged. Leonard H. Jackson (Mosgiel Junction), for driving a motor car with only one head light, was fined 5s and court costs (10s). Andrew Garden Reid (Henley) was fined 5s and costs (10s) for driving a motor car with one headlight, and for driving an unlicensed motor car was fined £1 and costs (12s). William Herbert Gibson (Mosgiel), for fixing or causing to* be fixed number plates to an unlicensed car, the property of Andrew G. Reid.. was fined £1 and costs (10s). George Roy Bremner wa3 fined 20s and costs (10s) for driving a car without being the holder of a motor license. UNEMPLOYMENT LEVY. The Inspector of Factories proceeded against Hugh M'Lean (Allanton) on a charge of failing to pay an instalment of his emergency unemployment levy on income other than salary or. wages. The defendant was convicted and fined £2 and costs (£1 4s 6d). John Downey (Mosgiel) was convicted and ordered to pay court costs (10s) for failing to pay his unemployment levy.
