SHEEP DOG TRIALS

WAITAKI COLLIE CLUB JUBILEE MEETING CONCLUDED (Feom Ode Special Reporter.) OAMA'RU, April. 12. Ideal weather conditions prevailed for the final day of the jubilee trials of the Waitaki Collie Dog Club held at Hakatarainea to-day, and there was again a large gathering of spectators. A commencement was made at 7.30 this morning, and the last dog had to run in the dark. This was an indication of the large number of dogs which competed in the Huntaway and Slew event. To-day's event was one of the most interesting of the whole meeting, and was a fine conclusion to the club's jubilee trials. There was no delay in running off each event, and as on the previous days the officials had everything well in hand to ensure promptness in getting the competitors out on the course. Mr lan Anderson's Speed came out the winner, with 43 points, having a lead of one point and a-half oyer the second dog, Mr J. M'Aughtrie's Sweep. Only three points separated the five leading dogs. At the conclusion of the trials the president of the club (Mr A; Chapman) thanked all the willing helpers who had assisted to make the jubilee trials such a success. He presented the judge (Mr Charles Hay) with a cigarette case as a memento of the Waitaki Collie Dog Club's jubilee trials. Mr Hay suitably replied, and in his remarks praised: the dogs in the Huntaway class. He also stated that the local dogs in this class were ap good as he had ever seen. Mr A. Henderson (judge of the local competitors, stated that the work done was exceptionally good, and the club day), in commenting on the maiden should continue in ite efforts to make it one of the main events in its trials.
