WAITAKI ELECTRIC POWER BOARD
TO THE EDITOR
Sir, —Since last election, when Mr K. Milligan and his party were elected to power on the pledge of economy, many things have happened that require explanation. I would be obliged if you could enlighten me on the facts of the board’s heavy expenditure on the following works, which you will notice are unproductive:— 1. The new store at the power house is used for holding wire. I believe this wire is specially manufactured to endure outside weather conditions. I am told that this store cost the board the sum of £BOO. Was it a fact that during the board’s constructive period many times greater the amount of material was efficiently housed in the old store buildings? 2. Against the advice of the board’s engineer and other expert opinion two officers of the board have now been stationed at Duntroon. I am told that the two dwelling houses and store buildings and two new motor care bought solely for this purpose cost the board the sum of £2OOO. Is this true? 3. Mr R. Milligan and his party found fault with the offices in Thames street, upon which the board had previously spent over £4OOO. lam informed that the board is now spending another £ISOO on the same offices. Does this needless expenditure conform with; the election pledges of economy? 4. Is it true that the board has now spent all its loan moneys, and is borrowing from its reserves?—l am, etc., *V. Ratepayer.
