ART EXHIBITIONS
MR S. L: THOMPSON'S PICTURES The exhibition of pictures of Brittany and Provence by Mr Sydney Thompson is attracting many visitors to the Pioneer Hall. The opportunity of inspecting it before it closes at the end of the present week is one that no art lover should mis.?. At the Internationale Exhibition held each year in the Principality of Monte Carlo, Mr Thompson's pictures have been particularly well received. Of some of the paintings sent in by him to one of the salons M. Valette, an eminent critic, has written: "This artist's magnificent talent places him among our best modern painters, and as soon as I entered the room the first pictures that caught my eye were his groups of Breton fisherfolk at work." Brittany has always attracted artists, and Mr Thompson has most faithfully rendered the character of that picturesque country." LUCRETIA JOHNSON'S WATER COLOURS. A final opportunity will be afforded the public to-day of viewing the display of water colours by Lucretia Johnson (Mrs Vipers) in Begg's Concert Chamber. The artist handles her medium with confidence, and has achieved some delightful results in the delineation of out-of-door scenes. Her studies of gardens are quite a feature of her work.
