SALE OF CIDER

LEGAL RESTRICTIONS DEFINED SMALL QUANTITIES NOT ' ALLOWED. (Pee United Press Association) CHRISTCHTJRCH, March 11. No license is necessary for the sale of cider in New Zealand, provided it is sold in quantities of not less than two gallons and is not consumed on the premises. That is the decision of the magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley) in what amounted to a test case, the defendant being Bernard Thomas Turner, of Woolston, who was charged with, on February 7, selling liquor without a license. A constable had bought two bottles of cider which contained 15.48 per cent, of proof spirit. The defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined £2 for polling cider in less than two-gallon lots, but the magistrate refused an order entitling the police to confiscate the liquor seized and the utensils.
