The report of the Lakeland Regional Group, presented at the annual meeting at Grasmere, showed that the Grasmere youth hostel proved the most popular in the country with 7847 bed nights, Keswick being second with 7240. The total number of bed nighiSs in all the 27 hostels was 44,201, am increase of nearly 50 per cent, on the figure of 20,862 last year, which was a record. A total of 536 bed nigh is wao taken by Dutch visitors, 229 by Germans and 111 by Danes. Mr Kenneth Spence, the chairman, said .the Lakeland Group beat all others in the country, with a total of 10,000 bed nights.
