SOLICITORS’ CLIENTS

PROTECTION AGAINST FRAUD NEW SOUTH WALES BILL SYDNEY, January 24. (Received Jan. 25, at 1 a.m.) The State Government has introduced a Bill to protect clients against misappropriation by fraudulent solicitors, whereby every solicitor will be compelled to contribute to a fidelity fund until it reaches £IOO,OOO, to which victimised, clients will have access by the usual legal processes unless a court of law should dispense with that procedure. The Chief Justice will be empowered to appoint a solicitors’ statutory committee, which will be entitled to strike a solicitor off the roll, and the Law Institute also will be empowered to conduct a surprise audit of any solicitor’s trust accounts.
