SHIPPING PROBLEMS

SUPPLY AND DEMAND SCHEME FOR ADJUSTMENT (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 23. (Received Jan. 24, at 5.5 p.m.) A scheme for adjusting the supply of tonnage to the demand has been drafted at a preliminary conference of the International Shipping Conference, which has been meeting in London. This was announced in a long communique, which gives a survey of the problems but does not give the details of the proposed scheme, which will be submitted to shipowners’ associations in different countries. These will examine it with a view to further consideration by a full meeting of the conference, if necessary, after a further preliminary meeting. It is understood, however, that the scheme follows the broad line of the rationalisation plan for oil tankers, which was introduced last May.
