He first went to Otorohanga perhaps in the hope of boarding the Limited, which did not stop there, and then walked to Kiokio, caught a goods train, and was at Otorohanga before daylight. 1 He asked the surfacemen when they came on duty about the trains. This information was given to the police only yesterday. The man, who answered the description of the missing Hona, was traced to Franklin, where he purchased a complete outfit from hat to canvas shoes. Ho had a roll of notes in his possession at the time. Apparently the man was making north, and his description was broadcast to-night.. The police cannot penetrate far into the bush at the scene of the tragedy on account of the wet weather. Five more police from Auckland will go to the scene to-morrow, as even if the man is arrested in the north the missing rifle (With tlie drawn bolt is an important piece of evidence.
