WELLINGTON, October 19.

Following strong objections by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce to the suggestions made at a meeting of the City Council that the corporation might investigate the possibility of doing its own printing, a deputation from the chamber waited on the Mayor (Mr T. C. A. Hislop). The Mayor explained that the council had no intention of setting up as printers of its own stationery requirements. The suggestion was purely the result of a discussion round the council table, and all that was anticipated was that a report on the general question might be obtained to see what the effect would be of the council undertaking its own printing. FOXTON, October 19. A Are occurred in Ross, Rough and Co.’s hackling shed at 11.50 a.m. and threatened the mill and Hannay’s benzine station. The prompt action of the brigade confined the fire to the tow shed and the outbreak is now well in hand. Valuable machinery was destroyed, affecting the supply of prepared tow. The fire was caused by the starter of a motor fusing. The plant was insured. CHRISTCHURCH, October 19. * After a lively discussion this morning, the Canterbury Education Board decided that the West Christchurch District School be raised to the status of a full high school, and that an intermediate school be established elsewhere in the district. Finality was thus reached on a controversial subject.
