EXHAUST FUMES PROVE FATAL (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 20. While changing a tyre in a garage at his residence, Frederick Stewart was overcome by fumes from the engine, and was found dead. The deceased, a builder and contractor, of Island Bay, had the engine running, apparently to warm it np. He was underneath the ear when he was found an hour after going to start it up yesterday afternoon. He was 42 years old, and leaves a widow and three children. SCHOOLBOY FATALLY INJURED (Per United Press Association) NELSON, September 20. A 12-year-old schoolboy, Brian Newton O’Connor, the son of Mr C. O’Connor, received a blow on the head while playing with other boys prior to entering a technical school class yesterday afternoon. lie appeared to be suffering and went home. Later he was removed to the hospital, dying an hour after admission. MAORI DROWNED IN RIVER (Peb United Press Association.) HOKITIKA, September 20. Andrew Maika Mason, aged 29, a Maori, jumped into the Arahura River yesterday and was drowned, lie left a note stating where Ilia body would be found. BULLET WOUND IN LEG A youth named Arthur Harris, aged 17 years, a resident of Mornington, Dun edin, was admitted to the Southland Hospital at 4 o’clock on Wednesday afternoon, suffering from a bullet wound in his leg. His condition late at night was quite satisfactory.
