Kl>[OCK-OUT CUP

NORTHERN AND TECHNICAL TO PLAY IN FINAL The semi-finals of the Knock-out 'Cup Competition were played on Saturday at the Caledonian Ground, which was in fine condition, notwithstanding the rain which fell during the morning. In neither game did. the piny reach a high stundard, Northerp defeating Mosgiel and Technical defeating Roslyn-Wakari. These teams will play off in the final next Saturday. TECHNICAL y. ROSLYN-WAKARI These teams provided the second game. Technical, although losing Pilling through injury in the first spell, overshadowed the Roslyn-Wakari team which did not play up to expectations, and won comfortably. The teams were: — Technical. —Tointon, Addison, Cope, Groves, Patton, Jones, Ives, Witchall, Pilling. Holden, Skinner. Roslyn-Wakari. Harborne, Ramage, Copland, Welhain, Scott, M f Callion, Lennon, Oliver, Munsie, Rutherford, Munro. Roslyn won the toss and from the kickoff Technical took play upfield, where Holden kicked over. Munsie, receiving from the goal kick, passed to Oliver, a corner resulting. Lennon's cross struck the cross-bar and dropped behind. Offside play by Witchall spoilt a Technical attack and, on Roslyn returning play, Rutherford tested Tointon. Patton received the clearance and went close with a long shot. Lennon failed to make headway from Scott's opening play and a Technical movement was repulsed by Harborne clearing a hard shot from Witchall. Twice Roslyn attacked strongly, but Addison and Cope cleared well, but in a further movement between Scott, Munsie and Lennon, the latter was unlucky with a good cross. Following a Technical advance, Pilling received an injury, which forced his retirement. Roslyn were awarded a free-kick, Scott played to Munro, who crossed for Munsie to score. Roslyn 1, Technical nil. From the restart Technical attacked with vigour, Ives forcing Harborne to concede a corner to save. The corner was repulsed. Rutherford and Oliver broke away, and a short pass to Munsie saw the latter graze the bar. Groves was defending well for Technical and Skinner changed over to the centre-forward position, but over keenness spoilt many chances. Harborne fisted out a good shot from Ives, and the hill defence repeatedly checked further attacks. At the other end, a shot by Munro hit the side of the net, and from succeeding play Patton opened out to Skinner, who slipped the ball to Jones to equalise the scores. On . the call of time, Ives received from Groves, Skinner connecting with the winger's cross to score close in. Technical 2, Roslyn 1. Technical opened the attack in the second, half, Harborne saving from Skinner. From midfield play, Roslyn pressed, forcing a corner, which was repulsed by Patton sending Skinner away. Roslyn pressed on the right, a cross \by Lennon being cleared by Tointon, and shortly after Scott went near with a hard drive. A miskick by Copland let Technical in, when Harborne was lucky to save, but Technical continued to hold the advantage, and with Witchall, Skinner, and Jones combining well, the hill defence was rattled. A long clearance by Ramage saw Munsie in clever play, his parting shot forcing Tointon to concede a resultless corner. A further corner to Roslyn saw Munsie skim the crossbar with a header. With only 10 men Technical were dominating the play, and Jones, Skinner and Witchall broke through, the latter adding the third goal. The occasional rushes by Roslyn lacked cohesion, Munsie being the only player to trouble the Technical defence, aud the game ended: —

Technical 3 goals. Eoslyn-Wakari .. ..« 1 goal. Mr H. T. Knight was referee, NORTHERN v. MOSGIEL Northern kicked off, and early had the Mosgiel defence troubled, but Cullen, on the wing, hung on too long, and Mosgiel cleared. Play was of a very poor standard, neither team being able to finish off their movements until Stevens beat Jones with a good shot. Mosgiel 1, Northern nil. After this reverse Northrn livened up, and were pressing hard, but the defence held all attacks until half time, which ended with no further score: Mosgiel 1, Northern ni!. At the commencement of the second spell Northern soon equalised, a cross from Little being well headed in by Henderson, and giving M'Dougall no chance. Mosgiel 1, Northern 1. Play was of a poor standard, both teams being at fault, and the next score came from a penalty awarded northern for hands, from which Coats scored. Northern 2, Mosgiel 1. At this stage Northern were having the better of the exchanges, but the finishing was poor, and the Mosgiel defence was given plenty of time-to clear. A good run by Connolly saw Henderson connect with the pass to score. Northern S, IVL sgiel 1. Mosgiel never let tip, and a good cross by Rogers was well snapped up by Stevens, who found the net with a good shot. Northern 3, Mosgiel 2. Just before the final whistle Northern were pressing hard, and were giving the Mosgiel defence a. worrying time, but the efforts were well checked. The final whistle went with the score unaltered: Northern 3 goals. Mosgiel 2 goals. Mr A. Knight was referee. CHATHAM CUP FINAL AUCKLAND BEATS CHRISTCHURCH.
