BALCLUTHA Considerable interest wag taken in the game between Clinton and Clutha Valley (Clydevale) on Saturday when these teams met in the final of the Boyd Cup (known as the knock-out) competition, on the Balclutha Show Ground. Clinton was favourite, although there were some who thought' that Valley, having won the Second Grade banner competition, and then being promoted to First Grade for the knock-out, would have a good chance. Green then took a tutu on the attack in the first spell, which ended with the Greens five points in the lead, a try scored by Knowles and converted by Doak., On resumption Clutha Valley attacked strongly and Laurn finally crossed for a try, Miller's goal kick failing. The Greens then took a turn no the attack and A. Orr scored, but Doak failed with the kick. The gairie ended shortly afterwards with the-scores: —Clinton S points, Clutha Valley 3 points. As a curtain-raiser a South Otago primary schools' team met a representative team from the Dunedin primary schools. A well-contested game resulted in favour of Otago by 14 points to nil. Tries for the winners were got by Lethaby (2), Calder, and Mitchell, Watson converting one try. Mr D. Mulvey was referee. Tearoe from Clutha seniors and Romahapa were among the competitors. Clutha was defeated by Miller's Flat A team (12—6) in the second round, and Romahapa was also defeated by Miller's Flat A. Prior >to leaving for Roxburgh, Mr George Dimmock (who has been promoted to ganger) was entertained by his follow railway employees at Balclutha and presented with a wallet of notes. Dr Norman F.
