WILEY POST WITHDRAWS MACHINE BADLY DAMAGED OKLAHOMA CITY, September 13. Wiley Post said to-day that his plane Winnie Mae was so badly damaged in the recent stratosphere test flight that he was forced to abandon hia plans to compete in the London-Molbourne air race. . THE CONTROLLING OFFICER LONDON, September 13, The Aero Club has appointed Mr J. J. Jeffs (control tower officer at Croydon) as controlling officer at Mildenhall in connection with the Centenary Air Race. POST INTERVIEWED NEW YORK, September 13. (Received Sept. 14, at 9 p.m.) In an interview in Oklahoma City, Mr Wiley Post said: “ The special supercharger will have to Ije completely rebuilt. This will take a month or six weeks, for I do not want to rush things. It would be impossible for me to put in replacements and fix up the plane for the Australian race, although I would sure like to be in there with that bunch of boys.” He said that the stratosphere climb showed no other illeffects on the craft or motor. “ I am convinced that I can hang up a new heavier-than-air altitude record next time. As soon ns I can get some rest and get these repairs, I am going out to set that mark.”

Mr Post expects to leave in a few days to join friends in a month's big game hunt in Alaska.
