A church with a tower as well as a spire is a novelty. If one looks at Ormskirk Church, he will see what is known as “ The Sister’s Polly.” Orme was a famous pirate, and for some reason his two daughters wished to perpetuate his memory. So they decided to build a church. One daughter wanted a square tower; the other a rounded steeple. Ormskirk, or Orme’s Church, shows how they settled the matter.
