POPULAR HEAD MASTERS
“BAD FOR THE BOYS” “It is a bad thing for a headmaster to be popular.” This is the expressed opinion of Mr William Field, headmaster of John Rusk in School, Croydon. Loudon, who is retiring after dealing with 10,000 boys in 43 years. “ The headmaster,”-. Mr Field says, “is too often regarded as a nice old man. whose job is just to make life easy and joyful for the boys to the detriment >f their studies.” About public schools Mr Field says; “ Boys go to school to work, and I am opposed to the laisser-faire attitude at many public and secondary schools. “Flappers” he deplores and he tells his pupils to give up their seats to the aged and infirm, but not to “flappers.” All the boys at his school wear rubber heels, because Mr Field thinks noise is un* I natural to a boy. ! - -
