OTAGO ASSOCIATION A. meeting of the committee of the Otago Cricket Association, was held last night. The president (Mr J. M. Fraser) presided. The secretary reported that he had supplied information sought by. the Mornington Methodist Bible Class, which intended to enter a team during the coining season. A draft , copy of proposed amendments to the rules of the New Zealand Council was received, and a committee, consisting of Messrs J. A. Dunning, R. O. Talbot, and D. A. Solomon, was appointed to consider them.

Mr A. G. Valentine, writing on .beliuli of the Dunedin and Christian Brothers' Clubs, asked that the committee should assist them in having the following points in respect of their tenure of Tonga Park determined: wickets would be ready for play; (2) authority to charge for admission; (3J the number of match wickets available at the beginning of the season and the amount of rent to be rebated in the event of five wickets. not being ready: The club’s opening date, the letter added, had been fixed for October 6. They had under way a scheme to raise a considerable sum of money, out of which they hoped to reimburse the association before the end of the season for the whole of the money, paid to the Reserves Committee on their behalf.—Reporting on behalf ot the Grounds Committee, Mr E. H. Ferguson said-the Reserves Department proposed to prepare two temporary practice wickets at Tonga Park—one. for each club—and these would have to be used until; early in November. It would not be possible to have any of the permanent wickets ready before the end of October. He mentioned incidentally that it was hoped that it would be possible to start senior matches at Logan Park on October 13.—A committee, consisting of the chairman and Messrs Ferguson, W. Brookes, and Valentine, was appointed to wait on the Reserves Committee of the City Council with respect to the points raised by the clubs concerned. . BABCOCK’S SUCCESS. PERFORMANCES IN LEAGUE CRICKET. In. a letter to the president, of the Otago Cricket Association (Mr J. M. Fraser), F. T. Badcock, the Otago coach, who had been playing during the English season for the Werneth Club in the Central Lancashire- League competition, stated That at the date, of writing (August 1} ,hc had taken over. 100 wickets, and, .with five matches to be played, was 125 short of his 10Q0 runs. He was keen to achieve ;-the double,” which had not previously been obtained by any player iii the Central Lancashire League. .'He added that he expected-to be back in Dunedin on October 24. GRANGE CLUB . ANNUAL MEETING; The fifty-sixth annual meeting of the Grange Cricket Club was.held in the club pavilion, North Ground, last uight. The president (Mr R.. M‘Lean) occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. Moving the adoption of the annual report'and balance sheet, .the. chairman said lie wished to'congratulate players on their performances during the past season. The .play of the senior team, in particular, was worthy of mention, and the other teams had all performed iienia.rkably well. He was pleased to sec that the ! club had succeeded in regaining the fiekl- : ing trophy, and this was no doubt due to the improved state of the outfield on the North Ground. With regard to the finances of the club, they all appreciated the efforts of the committee to make both ends meet, aud he appealed to members to pay their subscriptions early so that the committee would be able to purchase material for the club on better terms than before. In conclusion, Mr M/Lean extended, congratulations to Mr O. : Dey, who had; gained - a place in the New Zealand hockey team, and to Mr C. Sew Hoy, who • had been appointed referee. Hamel,. who seconded the motion, said that they had a-fine lot of young players in the .club,. and ..he hoped that more'would, come forward, as it was the younger cricketer, and not the, old one, who would be the mainstay of the club in the future, • / /.- Mr C. Nespit,; who, besides being a .player, was a'.hard worker in the interests of the Club,; .'•■/ Mr O. Dey spoke of the work of the committee, which, he said, had struggled hard to wipe off the deficit. , Although the credit balance' was. a. small it was the result of much effort, and he trusted the committee would 'be accorded .the support, it deserved during the coming season, - . Eight new players vvei’e nominated for membership. ’ The official opening of the club was fixed for October 6., The various trophies which were won during the year were then presented as follows;—First Grade: Batting, T. Chettleburgh, president’s bat; bowling, G. Lemin, Sports Depot bat. Second Grade A: Batting, W. R. Allen, Mr i. Curtis’s- trophy; bowling, H.; Pickup, Mr T. H. Elmes’s trophy.
