RYMILL EXPEDITION
EXPLORATION OF COASTLINE SHIP READY TO DEPART LONDON, August 31. (Received August 31, at 11 p.m.) The Rymill Antarctic Expedition ship Penoia will depart to-morrow to explore 1000 miles of unknown coastline between Luitpoldland and Charcot Land, The Pcnola carries a Bristol air-cooled tractor, sledges, skis, fuel for power and lighting, scientific apparatus, and three years’ food supply. She will wait at Montevideo for Lieutenant-commander Bingham and 35 huskies from Labrador, after which she will proceed to Port Stanley and pick up the advance party. The research ship, Discovery the Second, will assist in the transport of stores to the first base at Grahamland, where the aeroplane will be rigged and a reconnaissance flight made to observe the condition of the ice. Later a base will be established as far south as possible on the west coast of Grahamland Archipelago, possibly Jenny Island. The main objective will require two long sledge journeys, one cast towards Luitpoldland and one west towards Charcot Land. Each is expected to occupy a full summer’s sledging, preceded by depositing food depots.—Times Cable.
