FIFTY YEARS' RULE

RULER OF INDIAN STATE GIFTS TO THE POOR CALCUTTA, August 30. Over £15,000 worth of gold was distributed among thousands of the city's poor at the celebrations of the 50 years’ rule of the Maharaja of Gondol, Ihe ruler of a State in Kathiawar, in Western India. The Maharaja drove through the city, receiving a salute of 51 guns. One hundred and 35 prisoners received an amnesty.
