THE FIRST “ SILENCE NIGHT ” LONDON, August 28. (Received August 28, at 11 p.m.) Police reports indicate that London’s first “silence night” was generally successful. There was remarkably little hooting, though the primary effect was a considerable slowing, down of traffic, motorists cornering slowly and using their headlights as signals on the 12-mile drive through West London. The hospitals especially benefited.
