WHY CATASTROPHE?

ro IUE EDITOR. Sir,—The letter by Maraan-atha” on the probable nearness of Christs second coming to earth was refreshing reading; but 1 would .like to ask the question, Why was it headed “The World Catastrophe”? Surely His coming again will be the very opposite to catastrophe, tor it will mean the end of our present awful economic and international muddle and the beginning of a golden era of peace, prosperity, uprightness, and health. I erhaps the word is intended to mean the “ wind up ” of this present age. To some this might have a terrifying effect as denoting the end of the world, so it may be as well to note there is not, I believe, any mention in the Bible of the end of this world’s existence, the only change mentioned being that there > shall be a new earth and no more sea in it. Is tlie word " catastrophe ” used in the sense ot “a violent convulsion of the globe . In that respect I suppose the heading is correct, because when the Messiah does return the Mount of Olives will be split in two to the north and south, and the waters of the Mediterranean will flow through the gap to the Dead Sea, and. maybe, right on to the arm of the Red Sea. The Delta of the Nile will bo dried up. A great earthquake in the middle of Italy is duo about the same time, so we can safely say all that and perhaps more will be a “ violent convulsion. However, we need not be terrified, for we can see beyond the night of woe to the brightness of the coming days.—l am, etc., Cj. oTEEL.
