CHURCH SERVICES

TO THE EDITOR Sib, — I heartily agree with “Church Goer ” that it is desirable that ministers of religion should limit their sermons to 20 minutes; and even 20 minutes are 20 minutes lop long for a sermon of 35 minutes’ duration that is beyond all endurance. At the same time I do not agree with your correspondent when he etates - that “20 minutes are the absolute limit for any sermon," There are sermons that are worthy ot being unrestricted by any time limit. There would be no cause for complaint if ministers adhered to the follorving rule:—“Any sermon is too long that wearies the listener; any sermon is too short which does not bring conviction ot sin and a knowledge of God’s pardon; any sermon is futile which leaves the sinner comfortable and the saint contented.” —I am, etc., J. C. M. Oturehua, August 23.
