THE MEAT QUOTA
IN THE DISCUSSION BRITAIN’S REPLY AWAITED,. (Per United. Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, August 27. The lull in the discussion on the pos-. sible meat quotas between New Zealand and Great Britain is because the . New Zealand Government is awaiting a reply to its recent statement and ‘request concerning the restriction of the export of pork suggested by .the, British Government. . This explanation was given by the Prime Minister (Mr G. W. Forbes) in reply to an inquiry made' by: a reporter, to-night. '■ Mr Forbes' explained that the suggested allocation for the ex-' port of pork from'New Zealand, to Great Britain in-the proposals made 'by the British Government was not 1 acceptable, and : an endeavour AVas .being,, made to have it amended. The Government, had prepared its representations and. communicated them to.the British Govenir meat, but a reply had :npt yet been received. Mr Forbes was hopeful of a satisfactory agreement. - - ■ .
